Students Tour Brand New Academy

Students and their parents this week got their first glimpse of the new £12 million campus that will house the North Somerset Enterprise and Technology College (NSETC) which officially opens its doors in September.

Weston College Academy, home of the NSETC, is a state-of-the-art development, construction of which was managed by members of the Weston College leadership team.

It includes a purpose-built science floor complete with super-labs, a terrace where students can conduct outdoor experiments, technology and enterprise spaces, an all-weather sports pitch, a canteen, a library and a lecture theatre.

Peter, 14, plans to study science, engineering and computing at NSETC from September. He said: “I’m really impressed with the facilities at Weston College Academy.

“I think it’s a very professional environment and its close links with businesses in the Enterprise Area will help prepare us for work and university.”

His mother, Leslie, said: “The new campus is amazing; we were blown away with the new facilities. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into providing the best environment for students to study in.

“We were also impressed with how enthusiastic and approachable the staff at the NSETC are.”

Dr Paul Phillips OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of the Weston College Group, said: “This building was advanced through the Educational Funding Agency, Weston College and North Somerset Council.

“It demonstrates the magnitude of expertise that the College can bring to creating buildings which exceed the normal standard of educational accommodation offered to young people.

“I believe this will set the scene for a dynamic learning environment for the future, and would like to congratulate everyone involved with the build.”

Darran George, Interim Principal of the NSETC, said: “We have utilised the expertise from across the Inspirational Futures Trust and Weston College Group to realise a new learning environment designed around STEM and employability concepts.

“State-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms, combined with breakout spaces and open learning zones, enable our learners to engage with their study both inside and outside of the classroom. We are really excited to welcome our first cohort of learners into the new facility.”

NSETC is a new free school that specialises in the STEM fields; science, technology, engineering and maths. The school’s first open morning at its new campus is on Saturday the 10th September between 10am and 2pm. To find out more, visit or call 01934 411 477.
