Celebrating our first ever A Level results day!

Students and staff at North Somerset Enterprise and Technology College (NSETC) are celebrating after the school received its first set of A Level and BTEC results.

NSETC students achieved some very good results, in particular the school’s highest achieving learner, Ryan Scott, 18, whose exam results confirmed his place at Bristol University.

Ryan, who studied Maths, Physics and Business Studies, received a phenomenal A* and two As and will now progress on to study a BSc in Economics and Finance.

He said: “The results are amazing! I was hoping for an A and two Bs, and to achieve higher than that is a fantastic result.

“I’d like to thank all of the teachers at NSETC who have supported me to achieve this, and have given me lots of one-to-one tuition throughout my study.”

The results are an encouraging start for the NSETC which was only formed recently and has been making a big impact on regional education, earning the Employability Chartermark last month for equipping its students with work-ready skills.

Jacqui Ford, Acting Chief Executive of the Inspirational Futures Trust (the multi-academy trust of which the NSETC is a prominent member), said: “Congratulations to all of the students on their success and progression to university, work or further study.

“We are very pleased with the results, and it is good to see students like Ryan exceeding their own expectations and getting into their chosen universities.

“The AS results also show great promise for next year’s students, which bodes well for the NSETC’s future.”

NSETC is a new free school that specialises in the STEM fields; science, technology, engineering and maths. This September it will move to the Weston College Academy, where it will become the first school of its kind to be located in an Enterprise Area, strengthening its already close links with businesses and employers. The £12 million Academy, whose development was managed by Weston College and delivered on time and on budget, includes a purpose-built science floor, complete with super-labs and a terrace where students can conduct outdoor experiments, technology and enterprise spaces, an all-weather sports pitch, a canteen, a library and a lecture theatre.

Dr Paul Phillips OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Weston College, said: “We are very pleased with the building and with the support from our contractors BAM, the Education Funding Agency, the local and regional commissioner, as well as North Somerset Council, we have created a state-of-the-art facility for the benefit of the learners.”

Places are still available for a September start, and the school will be holding an open morning at Weston College Academy, Beaufighter Road (BS24 8EE) on Saturday 10th September between 10am and 2pm.
